Less than 10 years ago, the Julian Alps were a little-known area: who would ever have thought that these mountains, for so long hidden and off the beaten track, would one day become a real paradise for winter sports? After years of quick visits and winter explorations, the authors decided to publish this guide to all the main ski mountaineering routes in the Julian Alps’ main massifs: Montasio, Jôf Fuart, Canin and the Mangart massif, and to make them accessible to a wider audience.

The guide describes the characteristics of each route, using the same format as earlier guides in this series, and internationally-recognised technical parameters, without forgetting that when you are talking about mountain sports, it’s up to the mountaineer themselves to correctly assess his or her capabilities and motivations, and choose routes based also on conditions.
